Johannesburg Centre

About the Centre

General meetings, which include lectures, films or observing evenings, are held on the second Wednesday of each month, excluding December, usually in the Sir Herbert Baker at the former Republic Observatory, 18A Gill St, Observatory, Johannesburg, at 20:00. There are two small observatories on the site: one houses the 30-cm f/8 Jacobs telescope and the Papadopoulos dome houses a combined instrument (18-cm f/16 refractor, 15-cm refractor and 30-cm f/16 Cassegrain reflector). Informal observing evenings are held on certain Friday evenings.

ATM - Amateur Telescope Making classes are held on the premises of Parktown Boys’ High School on most
Saturday afternoons - please enquire from the Centre beforehand.
