The observatory belongs to a consortium of amateur astronomers. Each individual owns a share in the observatory, consisting of the equipment and buildings. The land is rented from a friendly farmer.

The Cedarberg Observatory has a very successfull public education / relation programme. The Observatory is located in a popular weekend tourism area and host free open nights.
