1. The competition is restricted to South African residents.
2. Images taken with a dedicated astro camera will not be considered. (Standard DSLRs and webcams are OK.)
3. Only images taken since 1 July 2025 will be considered.
4. Submissions received after the closing date of 15 January 2026 shall not be considered.
5. Submit your images electronically to astrophotography
assa.saao.ac.za AND assa.astrophotography

6. Acceptable file formats are .JPG and .TIFF, with a maximum file size of 5MB.
7. Image processing, including stacking, is acceptable.
8. Each image must be submitted separately.
9. All submitted images must be your own work.
10. Each submission must be accompanied by the following information:
• Your name and contact details.
• The date, time and approximate location.
• A brief description of the equipment used and any processing techniques employed.
11. You may be requested to supply a full-size processed image plus the original raw file with embedded EXIF.
12. Ownership of the intellectual property remains with the photographer without restrictions.
13. By submitting an image you agree to the rules, affirm that it is your own work, and agree to the image and associated details being published by ASSA and the prize sponsors in our various communications channels, with suitable accreditation (i.e. including your name). The image may be cropped or its resolution reduced to suit the needs of publication.
14. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding the judging.
