Photographs taken with the Metcalf telescope while it was stationed at Boyden Observatory, Arequipa, was used by Henrietta Leavitt. The work done by her using these photographs is of central importance to the history of astronomy. Due to her work, the “Period-Luminosity Law” was established & she discovered the standard candle (light intensity) to be used to measure distances.
