Harvard University had their own Observatory known as the Northern Station. As time went on they wanted to extend their work to the southern hemisphere. What became known as the Southern Harvard Station was an Observatory established at Arequipa in Chile. The site proved to be unsuitable due to constant cloud. The Observatory was relocated to Bloemfontein in South Africa. This page is dedicated to the Arequipa episode of the history of the Southern Harvard Station (1889 – 1927)
