Joining the Society

Anyone with an interest in astronomy is welcome to join the Astronomical Society – our members include beginners, advanced amateurs and professional astronomers.

Joining ASSA as a Centre Member

The easiest way to join is to become a member of your nearest Centre: Bloemfontein, Cape Town, Durban, Hermanus, Garden Route, Johannesburg, or Pretoria. If you cannot conveniently join one of the Centres, you can join as a Country Member.

Joining ASSA as a Country Member

You can join ASSA by completing the online membership application form. Alternatively, an application form is available from the Membership Secretary or can be downloaded as a PDF. An entrance fee of R 50 is payable on joining, as well as an annual subscription of R 65, which includes a copy of the Sky Guide for the following year. The subscription year runs from July 01 to June 30, and the Sky Guide is expected to be published around November 01 each year.

Annual membership fees

Membership fees are R 65 per year.
