History: Leewenboschfontein is a guest farm in the Karoo which belongs to the Leewenboschfontein trust of the Roux family of Ceres. This venue was used by the organisers of the Southern Star Party. Leewenbsochfontein Guest farm became a favourite venue for amateur astronomers of the Western Cape Region. At the September 2019 Star Party John Richards and Eddy Nijeboer came up with the idea of building a private observatory on the terrain. The owner Johan Roux Snr was approached and he was very amenable to the idea. This would have the benefit that the public staying on the guest farm would be able to have a star gazing evening on Saturday nights during the dark moon phase. Plans were drawn up and in November 2019 accommodation for the partners were built and a rudimentary but functioning observing platform was in place. William Brazelle and Marius Reitz joined the partners to ensure that the observatory will be manned on every observable Saturday night during the year. Leslie Rose joined the partners in 2022.
